Civil society has an important role to play in support of the objectives of sustainable human development, poverty alleviation and economic and social development. Recent UNCTAD ministerial conferences have greatly benefited from active civil society participation and have called for further collaboration with civil society and other actors to enhance the work of the organization and its member States.
As part of the official programme of the thirteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIII), the Civil Society Forum will be held in Doha, at the Qatar National Convention Centre, from 17 to 26 April 2012.

Civil society organizations will also have the opportunity to bring forward the views and objectives of their constituencies in the debate on "development-centred globalization", the theme of the Doha Conference.
